MBBS — Become a Doctor
The primary medical degree that licenses you to practise as a doctor in India.
Entrance paths that lead here
What it is
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) is India's core undergraduate medical degree. After completing it and registering with the National Medical Commission or a State Medical Council, you are licensed to practise as a doctor and can go on to specialise (MD / MS / DNB).
Why it matters
India still has far fewer doctors per person than the world average, so demand is deep and lasting. Medicine remains one of the most respected, secure and impactful careers, with clear ladders into dozens of specialities.
Why choose it — the benefits
- ✓Respected, secure and meaningful — you directly save and improve lives.
- ✓A clear ladder to specialisation (MD/MS/DNB) and super-speciality.
- ✓Both government and private-sector paths, plus research and academics.
- ✓Global mobility after clearing the destination country's licensing exam.
Who is eligible
- •10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology and English.
- •Minimum 50% aggregate in PCB (40% for SC/ST/OBC, 45% for PwD) in the qualifying exam.

How to prepare
- →Master NCERT Biology cover-to-cover — it is the single highest-yield resource.
- →Build rock-solid Physics and Chemistry fundamentals; practise numericals daily.
- →Take full-length timed mocks with +4 / −1 marking and review every mistake.
- →Keep an error notebook and revise high-yield chapters on a spaced schedule.
- →Consistency beats cramming — steady daily practice over many months wins.
Honest challenges to weigh
- !Extremely competitive — lakhs compete for a limited number of government seats.
- !Long training, and a PG-seat bottleneck to specialise.
- !Private / deemed college fees can be very high.
- !Demanding hours during internship and residency; real burnout risk.
