How do growers make seedless grapes bigger, or a rooting powder help cuttings grow roots?

Two hormones are used. Spraying gibberellins on grapes makes the cells elongate, giving longer stalks and larger, seedless fruit. Rooting powders contain auxins, which stimulate the cut end of a stem to develop roots — that's why dipping a cutting in the powder before planting greatly improves its chances. Applying the right hormone externally lets us steer plant growth on demand.
