IIT Madras Online BS — Data Science / Electronic Systems

IIT Madras offers online BS degrees in Data Science & Applications and in Electronic Systems. Entry is through a four-week online qualifier (not JEE): you study, submit weekly assignments and then sit a proctored in-person exam.

It opens IIT-quality teaching to students who didn't take or clear JEE, to those in any stream (for Data Science), and to students who want to study alongside another degree or work.

• ✓No JEE needed; any stream can apply for Data Science.

• ✓Exit options at foundation, diploma and degree levels.
• ✓Fee waivers of 50–75% based on category and family income.

• •Data Science: passed Class 12 (any stream, any age). Class 11 students who finished their finals may apply and join after Class 12.
• •Electronic Systems: Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics.

• •Data Science: mathematics, statistics, programming (Python), machine learning and business data.
• •Electronic Systems: circuits, C programming, signals, embedded systems and electronics labs.

1. 1Apply on the IIT Madras BS site before the term deadline (there are several intakes a year).
2. 2Complete the 4-week qualifier: weekly graded assignments (average 40% General, lower for reserved categories, to sit the exam).
3. 3Take the in-person qualifier exam. Pass mark: 40% in each course and a 50% average (General).
4. 4Register for your first term. Your qualifier score decides how many courses you can take at first.

Official fee (for students joining after the September 2025 term): Data Science BS about ₹3.86–4.50 lakh in total; Electronic Systems about ₹5.8 lakh.
